Edulaw Chambers provides specialist advice, advocacy and training in education law. We regularly act for local authorities, schools/academies, as well as parents and young people. We are particularly successful in advising clients as to how to resolve their disputes positively without resorting to costly litigation.
Tanya CallmanBarrister

Tanya was called to the Bar in 1993 and practised as a barrister at the Chambers of Lord Campbell of Alloway QC, 2 Kings Bench Walk, Temple. In 2007, she set up Edulaw Training, a bespoke lecturing business providing training on education law.
In 2012, Tanya founded Edulaw Chambers, alongside Practice Manager Sally Collyer. Tanya practises as a sole practitioner at the Bar. She also accepts public access instructions. Tanya has appeared regularly before all types of Courts and Tribunals advising local authorities on a wide range of education law and policy issues. She has also acted for parents and children as well as for many independent schools and academies.
Tanya has been recognised as a leading practitioner in education law by both of the main legal directories, “Chambers & Partners” and “Legal 500”. She represented the City of Westminster in the first case of an appeal from the decision of the (then) Special Educational Needs Tribunal (S v Special Educational Needs Tribunal and the City of Westminster) – taking the case ultimately to the Court of Appeal.
In 2023, Tanya was appointed by the Minister for Education to sit as a member of the Teaching Regulation Agency Professional Conduct Panel, hearing claims of serious misconduct against teachers.
Tanya was formerly Consultant Editor of Education, Public Law and the Individual, the journal which she founded and she is a member of the Practical Law Company Public Sector Consultation Board.
A founder member of the Advisory Group for the National Autistic Society ’s Advocacy for Education Service, Tanya has also been involved with a range of educational and special educational needs charities. She was co-Chair of an access advisory group on disability issues. Tanya regularly Chairs the Education Law Association’s annual conferences and is currently on the Administrative Law Bar Association Equality and Diversity Subcommittee.
Tanya has appeared on Legal Network Television, presented a paper at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, written for Judicial Review and contributed course material for the Open University.
Sally Collyer
Practice Manager
Sally is Practice Manager to Tanya Callman with whom she established Edulaw Chambers. Sally had over 10 years experience at Brick Court Chambers, a leading set of Chambers, with numerous KCs and Juniors specialising in public law, competition/EU and commerc
ial law. Having had responsibilities for Clerking across all their core areas of practice, Sally is used to dealing with matters across the full range of Domestic and European courts at both the most senior and junior level.
She has a degree in Criminal Justice and this interest in the law provided the impetus for her clerking career. Sally prides herself on being efficient and accessible. She is always happy to discuss client needs and the best way for Edulaw Chambers to deliver high quality advice and a cost effective service.

As set out on the Legal Ombudsman’s website above, there may be a time limit applicable to any complaint you may wish to make. Ordinarily you can ask the Legal Ombudsman to look at your complaint if it meets all three of the following criteria: (i) the problem or when you found out about it happened after 5 October 2010; (ii) you are referring your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman within either of the following: six years of the problem happening or three years from when you found out about it; and (iii) you are referring your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman within six months of any final response from your service provider.
